"Overcoming Poverty through Art"

THE "NEWS-LETTER"

...,Dee & Tiny Speaks Poor1s Projects

(This is the first in a series of columns
about the life/art of Dee & Tiny, who
before they were co-editors of POOR
magazine ,created wacky conceptual
and video art installations, weaving irony
and humor into the tragedy as a survival
mechanism)

The Family thought that Dee &
Tiny and Mom and Dad
and their eleven brothers and
sisters were sailing on in the
Bermuda triangle, capsized, killing
everyone but Dee & Tiny who were found
holding onto Dad1s hydro-poly
gold club suit jacket and rescued by a
Hindu Tamal coast guard cutter
and brought to San Francisco
where they sold painted clothing
on the street for 17 years and saved
$780.00 dollars..

Now........ The rain pelted their small cracked windshield like thick molasses, dripping down the center of a stack of hot glassy pancakes, Dee & Tiny let out occasional yelps of terror as speeding trucks would send a shudder through their 1979 subcompact as it fought to stay near the dividing lanes of the Oakland Bay Bridge .Once again, Dee & Tiny faced danger and spit in it's eye determined, against all odds, to house the homeless artists and writers of POOR who were in desperate need of permanent, safe living quarters., i.e., to acquire a site for "the intentional community project "aka" "the POOR HOUSE"
(see poor projects for more info)Yet, after a never ending trail of appointments with potential
landlords, not, withstanding the wrath of El Nino, Dee & tiny due to their lack of "suitable" credit references, or the large sums required for move-in fees that went way over Dee & Tiny's meager budget were still in search of "a place"

Suddenly, Dee & Tiny have the amazing revelation that they, Dee & Tiny, should tell the truth about a certain federal official and them They decide definitely to call all the newspapers and admit that they did not have a sexual relationship with President Bill Clinton, and even if they are called to testify before the grand jury, they will still not admit it. They then begin to worry about all the talk shows on which they will have to appear and the money that they will reluctantly accept, the million dollar offers from PENTHOUSE for scantily clad pictorials, which they will have to refuse, of course. The news shows; 20/20, Face the
Nation, The Lehr Report, Oprah..But then, Dee & Tiny realize
everything is a trade -off; they must forfeit their adored privacy
for the potential cash just so they can make the "intentional
community project" a reality..................................
